A natural pool, like the one that we have in Paluffo, it’s like a small pond with water plants, flowers and also small aquatic animals. The water is purified naturally by a biofilter, something like the biofilter used in the aquariums but bigger, very bigger.
In a standard pool, the water is sterilized by chlorine (in the salt pools it’s always the chlorine that works) or by UV. In such a way the harmful bacterias, that are mainly introduced by swimmers, are killed and the water is safe, but it’s dead.
The bacterias in the natural pool are kept under control by the biofilm and the plankton that populate the water and the biofilter.
So the water is naturally kept in balance and it is safe for swimming and, in some cases, can be drunk. The biofilm is mainly hosted in the biofilter made with pebbles, lava stones, and zeolite, where the water is continuously running pumped by a small motor.
To offer completely safe water, in Paluffo we monitor the biological status of the water with periodical tests.
Plants and flowers, a signature and unique elements in the natural pool are so important because they “eat” the nutrients that are introduced by the rain or the swimmers.
In such a way, the water is always clean and free from algae also in hot summers. A natural pool is a perfect house for small animals as tritons, frogs and small insects like dragonfly larvae, bigger animals as fish are incompatible with the balance of the pool. All these creatures are very shay and live in the regeneration area hidden under flowers and water plants.
