1. The Sun Route – Tuscan Section

The Sun Route is part of the larger EuroVelo 7 route, a 7,400-kilometer cycling path that crosses Europe. The Tuscan section, about 200 kilometers long, crosses the region from north to south, passing through art cities and breathtaking landscapes. It winds from the hills of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines to the gentle hills of Chianti, running alongside legendary rivers, crossing fascinating woods, flavorful orchards, verdant vineyards and art cities like Florence. This route is not only an opportunity to cycle, but also to discover the authentic culture and flavors of Tuscany.

2. The Arno Bike Route

The Arno Bike Route is a magnificent cycling itinerary of about 270 kilometers that begins at the slopes of Monte Falterona and ends at the sea, in Marina di Pisa, winding along the course of Tuscany’s most important river. It includes the provinces of Arezzo, Florence and Pisa, and allows you to cross territories of great historical, artistic and naturalistic value. It starts from the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, passing through the enchanting Casentino Forests Park and picturesque villages like Poppi and Bibbiena. It then continues in the Arezzo area, where the Ponte a Buriano and Penna Nature Reserve is located. Afterwards it proceeds towards Florence, where to follow the Arno you cycle among the wonderful Tuscan hills, but also in the city center. In Pisa too, the bike route section passes through the city.

3. The Via Francigena Bike Route in Tuscany

The Via Francigena is an ancient religious pilgrimage route over 3,000 kilometers long, connecting Canterbury to Rome and continuing to Santa Maria di Leuca. Traveling it by e-bike means crossing historic villages, art cities, endless valleys and breathtaking landscapes, following in the footsteps of pilgrims, merchants and travelers who for centuries have traveled this route. The Tuscan section is extraordinarily beautiful, where the cycling stages are nine and specifically go from stage 11, Berceto-Aulla, to stage 19, from Radicofani to Bolsena. The route in Tuscany crosses numerous cities and villages, including Lucca, San Miniato, San Gimignano, Monteriggioni, Siena, Ponte d’Arbia and San Quirico d’Orcia. The itinerary is marked with adhesive bands and/or white-blue arrows with the writing “CicloVia Francigena,” or, rarely, by the symbol of the pilgrim surrounded by a bicycle wheel.
